The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and LEGO® DUPLO® are teaming up to celebrate the “builders of tomorrow.” Together, these two organizations are providing even more inspiration for storytime at home and at libraries.
At the 2012 ALA Annual Conference, ALSC and LEGO DUPLO are inviting librarians to learn more about the impact play can have as an integral part of early literacy. As part of their collaboration, ALSC and LEGO DUPLO will be announcing a program called Read! Build! Play! that combines reading and building.
Sixteen librarians visited the ALAoffices in Chicago June 15 from countries as far away as Nigeria, Egypt, and Japan, among others. The librarians were part of an annual summer associates program assembled by theMortenson Center for International Library Programs at the University of Illinois Library at Urbana-Champaign.
During this 90-minute online session, Brenda Hough will prepare you to run meetings and lead planning discussions with confidence in both face-to-face and online sessions! The effective facilitation skills that will be covered in this session are relevant to many professional situations, including focus groups, staff meetings, brainstorming and learning sessions and countless other group opportunities where a leader is needed to guide the conversation. Hough will also provide tips for improving participation and productivity and cover important topics such as group dynamics, learning styles and models for running meetings and group sessions.
Over the past few years, the popularity of WordPress among librarians has exploded enabling them to create attractive websites with advanced functionality without extensive programming. In this workshop, ideal for librarians curious about WordPress or those just getting started, Web developers and WordPress experts Polly-Alida Farrington and Amanda Goodman will provide an overview of WordPress and explain how it can be used to quickly and easily build an excellent library website.
